01 / ORIGINAL MECHANISM SKETCHWork out how it could move.
A compact gear mechanism translated a small motor’s movement into the turning force needed at the lid.
Explore my idea ↗OUR OWN PRODUCT / THE AUTOMATIC JAR OPENER
A product-development story from Daka’s own portfolio: the mechanism, prototype, intellectual property and finished product behind the automatic jar opener.

THE STARTING PROBLEM
For someone who struggles with a tight lid, another tool to grip it still leaves the hardest part: supplying the turning force.
The product’s job was simple to describe: grip and turn the lid automatically. Making that work took real engineering.
01 / ORIGINAL MECHANISM SKETCHA compact gear mechanism translated a small motor’s movement into the turning force needed at the lid.
02 / WORKING PROTOTYPEA physical prototype turned the concept into something that could be handled and refined.
03 / INTELLECTUAL PROPERTYThe published case identifies utility patent US 7,398,714 B1 and design patent US D594,303 S.
PRODUCTION IS NOT THE END OF THE STORY
The jar opener’s published history describes a later TV commercial with a fresh angle reviving demand after its initial sales run.
That is why we look beyond a rendering: how the benefit is demonstrated, who the product is for, and how it reaches the customer all matter.
This is an own-product commercialization case, not evidence that every inventor receives a licensing deal.
THE DESIGNER’S PERSPECTIVE
